Teaching & research

Thinking through the hand.

Bookbinding, papermaking, printing, and the connections between structure and meaning.

Bookbinding Workshops

As Lecturer of Bookbinding, I work with students on historical and contemporary structures, from Coptic and stiff-leaf binding to case binding, adhesive binding, and box making. The workshops connect material decisions with the ideas a book can communicate.

Workshop areas

01 · Structure

Historical bindings

Coptic, Ethiopian, and stiff-leaf structures offer ways to study how a book opens, moves, and holds its pages.

02 · Material

Paper & print

Handmade paper, letterpress, Arabic typography, and printmaking connect the surface of a page to its content.

03 · Form

Books & enclosures

Artist’s books and boxes use sequence, scale, compartments, and the reader’s interaction as part of the work.
