Statera, Mizan
The measured Arabic letter meets the marks of everyday life.
The rhombic dot is a unit used to measure and balance Arabic calligraphy. Statera places the twenty-eight letters, printed in red Thuluth script, over historical ledger pages filled with handwriting, seals, signatures, and notes.
The formal proportions of the letters meet the irregular traces of human use. Fourteen engraved camel-bone pieces carry a letter on each side, extending the system of measurement beyond the pages.
