Echoes
The repeated words of Cairo’s streets become the structure of a book.
Echoes records three demands heard during the Egyptian revolution of 2011: bread, freedom, and social justice. Their Arabic words recur in Kufic script across thirty sections.
Maps of Cairo are engraved on the covers and edges. The city and its voices are held together in a book made to remember the demands that brought people into the streets.
